What material is an artificial plant made of?.
In this article
What is an artificial plant made of? Artificial plants and flowers owe their lifelike appearance to the use of high-quality materials. A high-quality artificial plant is made from plastic and artificial silk of natural origin.
This silk is derived from cellulose and wood pulp. Because the material works very well, details can be added with great finesse. Thanks to it, an artificial plant is very hard to tell apart from real plants and flowers. The difference really only shows in the maintenance and the lifespan.
Artificial plants of plastic and artificial silk
Imitation plants made from this material also have a long lifespan. The manufacturing process is moreover considerably more sustainable than growing real plants and flowers, because it happens only once. Some fake plants are even made from recycled materials, which is better still for the environment.

Imitation plants of artificial silk with lifelike details
Artificial silk from cellulose and wood pulp is an easily worked material. That means artificial plants can readily be given the details you see on real plants: grooves in the stems, small irregularities and veining in the leaves. High-quality artificial plants are reproduced very realistically, from the branches and the trunk to the leaves.
How is a plastic artificial plant made UV-resistant?
Some fake plants for outdoors are UV-resistant as well. These artificial plants are made from the same material as indoor artificial plants but are treated with a special coating. This protective layer stops the plastic and the artificial silk fading under the sun's rays. So you can safely use them on the terrace, in the garden or on the balcony. This UV-resistant coating is applied not only to artificial plants but also to artificial flowers and trees, such as fruit and citrus trees and imitation olive trees.
