Artificial dracaena: the dragon tree as an artificial plant

The dracaena belongs to the Asparagaceae family and has around 120 species. The name comes from the Greek word "drakaina", meaning female dragon. It refers to the red resin some species produce, known for centuries as "dragon's blood". The Dracaena draco on the Canary Islands is regarded as one of the oldest trees in the world.

Most dracaena species come from Africa and Asia. They are recognisable by their long, narrow leaves growing from a central stem. The leaves form a crown at the top of the stem, giving the plant an elegant silhouette.

The artificial version of the dracaena

Our artificial dracaena is available from 100 to 170 cm. The leaves have a natural colour gradient from green to yellow, as in the popular Dracaena fragrans and Dracaena marginata. The stem is real wood.

A real dracaena is relatively easy as a houseplant. But it has its problems too: brown leaf tips from air that is too dry, root rot from too much water, and sensitivity to fluoride in tap water. Our artificial version suffers from none of it.

The dracaena suits a modern interior. Its clean, vertical lines give a restful look. The plant is popular in offices for its professional appearance and the fact that it needs no maintenance at all.

Is the dracaena suitable for dark rooms? As an artificial plant, yes. The living variety needs indirect light, but our artificial version looks good in any room, even without daylight.
