In short

In a living room a dead plant is annoying. In a shop or a reception area it is something else: it stands exactly where your customer looks first. Yet those are precisely the spaces where real plants have the hardest time, because they are placed in spots nobody would choose for a plant.

Below are the problems businesses run into, which spots lend themselves to artificial plants, and what is involved in a larger order.

Why businesses switch

It is rarely about the purchase and almost always about what comes after. A plant in a commercial building needs someone to water it, and that someone is not there during the holidays, not at weekends, and certainly not during building work. Every year part of the greenery disappears, and what is left looks worse halfway through the year than it did at purchase.

An artificial plant removes that dependency. No watering can, no schedule, no contract with a gardener. What remains is the occasional dusting, which the cleaning company can pick up on its normal round.

The spots where real plants do not survive

Almost every building has the same problem spots.

  • The shop window. Behind glass facing south, the temperature rises enough to scorch leaves, and in winter it is cold and draughty instead.
  • The reception desk. Often in the middle of the building, far from daylight, and nobody feels responsible for what stands on it.
  • On top of cabinets and partitions. Not reachable with a watering can without a ladder, so in practice that greenery never gets watered.
  • Meeting rooms. Air conditioning that dries the air, curtains kept closed for the screen, and weeks when nobody comes in.
  • Stairwells and corridors. Little light and a lot of traffic, so the risk of being knocked over as well.

What the maintenance actually is

Dust is the only enemy. An artificial plant in a shop catches more dust than one at home, simply because there is more movement. Wiping it two to four times a year with a dry cloth or a feather duster keeps the foliage fresh. On heavily textured leaves, a soft brush works better than a cloth.

What not to do: leaf shine spray, aggressive cleaners or a wet cloth with soap. That leaves streaks and actually attracts dust. In cleaning artificial plants you will find the full method, including for plants that have gone a long time without cleaning.

Choosing the size for a space open to the public

The mistake most often made in commercial spaces is buying too small. A plant that looks generous at home disappears completely in a shop with high ceilings and plenty of furniture. So go one size up from what you would choose at home: in a space with a ceiling of three metres or more, 180 to 200 centimetres works, and at a reception desk 150 to 160 centimetres is usually the minimum to be noticed.

If the space works with fixed sight lines, for instance an aisle along shelving, use two matching plants in rhythm rather than one on its own. That reads more calmly than a single plant that belongs to nothing. How to work out height precisely is in our article on setting up a workspace.

For both situations we have a separate selection: artificial plants for the office and artificial plants for the shop.

Larger quantities and a quote

If it is more than a few plants, for instance furnishing a whole building or several sites, request a quote. We will then look with you at the size per space and at delivery, and you get a price based on the quantity.

We are based in Heesch and keep the stock in house, so talking it through by phone is always possible on 085 060 4806.

Delivery and payment

Order before 4 pm and your parcel goes out the same day; you usually have it within one to three working days. Delivery to the Netherlands and Belgium is free, including for larger consignments. Paying later is possible, which is often more convenient than paying in advance for a business order.

For a first impression of what does well in this segment: our best sellers are the most chosen plants among businesses too.
